Ural Federal University (UrFU) together with partner companies USSC, Sber and Kontur, will hold cyber exercise — student cybersecurity competitions for the first time. The event will be held on December 5-7 on the basis of the new UrFU campus in Novokoltsovsky district as part of IT congress and the exhibition "Forum of the Future".
"It is extremely important for UrFU, as a federal university, not just to train specialists with fundamental academic knowledge in the field of information technology, but to give the country graduates of a higher level who possess research and applicable skills, who are able to respond quickly to the perpetually changing world with a high level of digitalization. That is why I think that conducting cyber exercise among students is especially important. It is a great way to develop critical thinking, teamwork skills, quick information analysis and search for solutions, " Ilya Obabkov, Director of the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies (UrFU), commented.
Students of all Russian universities can take part in the competition. To do this, they have to organize a team of 4-5 people, register on the event's website before November 20, and accomplish the test task. Participants will be divided into two teams at the competition. The "Red Team" will be attackers and the "Blue Team"will be defenders: the first ones will try to hack the infrastructure, and the second ones - to investigate the hacking incident.
"Taking into account unprecedented growth of hacker attacks on Russian companies in the last two years, the active digitalization of various sectors of the economy and the development of new import substitution products, information security issues for the state as a whole and each company in particular have become more crucial than ever," Valentin Bogdanov, General Director of USSC, commented. — That is why intensive training of specialists in this field is so important. Participation in Cyber Exercise will help students to test their cumulative competencies, gain new knowledge and skills and to practice them immediately on real cases."
Moreover, on December 5 and 6, representatives of USSC, Sber, UDV Group and Kontur companies will hold lectures and workshops for everyone who is interested in detecting cyber attacks and ensuring information security of enterprises. Everyone will be able to take part in the educational program and communicate with experts.
The competitions are held with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Sverdlovsk Region, the UrFU Endowment Fund and UCS cybersecurity community.
